Review of Boyhood (1951) by Cade H — 17 May 2015
Boyhood got rave reviews and was up for all sorts of awards but all in all, it is not a real entertaining movie. The concept was amazing and artistically it was outstanding. The fact that it was filmed over 12 years and you saw the cast age on screen was something so unique but the actual story based around all of that was so average.
It was the life of a normal boy from grade school to college and his relationships with his family and friends. There were no dramatic moments, nothing thrilling or intense and not even any sad moments, no emotion at all really.
It was fun to see the characters mature and change over the course of almost 3 hours but I was never enthralled in the movie. From strictly a film-making standpoint this was something great but if your sitting down wanting to watch something exciting and interesting this one will do not provide that.
Boyhood will bore most average people but if you have the time and patience to invest in the life of this family you may pull something good out of it. Just be prepared for an abrupt ending that brings no closure to the film.
