Review of Boy A (2008) by Simon D — 22 Oct 2008
Boy A has a simple premise: a young boy, convicted of murdering a child, is released 10 yrs later with a new identity. The execution is quite good, and the individual performances are outstanding. The problem that I have with this movie is that it presents an obviously one-sided argument.
There are no complexities in any of the characters besides Jack, and even the other major protagonist, Jack's guardian angel patron, is quite 2-dimensional. However, it is a testament to the things that this movie does correctly that although this brief review focuses on the film's shortcomings, there is still a 4-star rating on the board.
Boy A is an excellent diversion that elicits a lot of emotion, but not enough thought.
