What a subtle yet powerful piece of work. It's the story of a teenager released from prison after being convicted of a murder when he was just a kid. Now it's time for him to work his way back into society while trying to adjust to life as an adult and all the responsibility that comes with it.

The film does move at a fairly deliberate pace, and may be a little too slow at times. However, the film is so well acted, particularly that of the lead character of Jack played by Andrew Garfield. The film is devastatingly truthful, and seems like it could have been a true story in how real many of the scenes feel.

And although I found the very end a little muttered, I was left saddened and yet wanting to see what Jack will do next (if it's not already implied at the end of the film). Overall, I think this a very good dramatic piece and I also believe it would be a big Oscar contender if it were remade in America with American actors.

It has a everything Oscars would look for other than it's a British film.
