Review of Bowling for Columbine (2002) by Hanna H — 14 Oct 2010
This was great. I thought it was going to focus a bit more on the Columbine shooting and aftermath (just judging by the title), but it surprised me. Columbine was a point in what Michael Moore was trying to say, but it wasn't the main focus.
Anyway...as I watched, this documentary had my full attention. I was appalled at just HOW MUCH higher our gun-related murder rate is in comparison to the rest of the freaking world. And that our entire country lives in fear of everything (that's really no secret, but I never really thought about it). Basically, I learned a lot from this. Obviously there's more to the story (a documentary only shows you what the director wants you to know/learn...he may be attempting to "expose" the violence problem in America, but that doesn't mean he's immune to the "shock and awe" tactics used in every nightly news airing in the U.S.) I also laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. All those ignorant people...makes me so pissed off (but not to the point of wanting to kill anyone).
In the end, this made me love Canada even more. Not the intention, I'm sure.
