Review of Bowfinger (1999) by Rex N — 10 Sep 2009
A movie that gives us Steve Martin in his late 70's glory and Eddie Murphy at his early 80's best.........when they were on SNL.
With a script that hits all comedic highlights of both actors to a tee, we are given a brief glimpse of what the "war-room" of SNL might of looked like back in 1982.
Martin plays Bobby Bowfinger, a wannabe film-maker, who looks exactly like his wild and crazy Czech character, Georg Festrunk, who tells his studio that he has a movie with the hot star, Kit Ramsey (Murphy), who has no idea about this plan and Bowfinger hires a look alike, Jiff (Murphy) to do most of the acting.
The ending is very amusing and fitting. This is a true comedy classic and one that gets over-looked.
Actually this is the last live-action comedy that Murphy was funny. Granted he was great in Showgirls and has been great in animation, but again, this was his last great comedic movie.
