Review of Bowfinger (1999) by Jd T — 12 Apr 2008
I love this movie. Mr. Bowfinger (Steve Martin) has been trying to be a successful movie producer while all of his friends are hoping to be stars. When he reads "Chubby Rain," he thinks he has found gold.
He soon learns that he needs an actual star to get this film picked up by a major studio. He decides to use Kit (played by Eddie Murphy) to be the star of this feature. He tells his cast of characters that Kit has agreed but doesn't want to shoot his scenes in the traditional method.
It's Bowfingers lies that keep this crew thinking that they are actually filming with Kit who has no idea he is in a film shoot. The hilarity comes from the craziness the ensues. Everyone in this film is fantastic and the shooting of the film is often done with an Ed Wood flare (no permits, no money).
There are subtle things within Bowfinger that add to the humor. Eddie Murphy is great and Heather Graham is funny and sexy. Love it.
