Review of Bound (1996) by Ali S — 05 Aug 2008
Amazing first feature from the Wachowski brothers (they of "The Matrix" trilogy). This gem of a film is both audacious in its daring (love story about a scheming lesbian couple that pull of the unimaginable - screwing over the mob!) and in its originality!
Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon are perfectly cast and beautifully play the parts of Violet and Corky. Again, this is an example of a movie that does not rely on expensive special effects, expolsions or gimmicks...it simply tells an engaging story that teeters between film noir and thriller...but which, inevitably, leaves you highly satisfied. The twist at the end is genius and the two female leads are ably supported - particularly by Joe Pantoliano and the equally fantastic Christopher Meloni (he that I worship weekly at the great altar that is Law & Order: Special Victims Unit!)...This is definitely a favourite and is also important as it introduced the Wachowski brothers into the film firmament and offered a glimpse of the talent that was yet to come...
