Review of Bound (1996) by Peter M — 08 Aug 2008
A lot of it is pure genius... but it starts out almost exploitative and one of the main characters is horridly under-developed, not to mention the whole relationship between the two leads being somewhat dubious in it's impartiality.
Could have been better had a bit more time been spent at the writing stage, or had the Wachowski's been able to resist filming some scenes that border on being soft core porn. It takes a while to get going but when it does, it's five star stuff all the way for about the last hour or so I would guesstimate.
Very interesting to see some of the Wachowski's work prior to The Matrix... they clearly already had a lot of their ideas for that film swirling around prominently in their heads. On the whole, this is a must watch.
Pantoliano is particularly great, (as always!).
