Review of Bound (1996) by Natasha P — 04 Sep 2009
"Bound", the brilliant debut from the Wachowski brothers, is a solid, sexy and suspenseful neo-noir thriller with an edge. Gina Gershon plays Corky, a character usually reserved for a male actor.
It is this reversal of roles which makes "Bound" so unique. Instead of the typical male-female relationship which usually drives a noir story, we have a lesbian couple whose motives are just as believable as they would be had Corky been played by a man.
The movie seems sort of contrived at the beginning, but we are nevertheless hooked in for the ride. This is a very smart film with some excellent performances all around.
