Review of Bound (1996) by Ogün Ü — 18 Dec 2010
I'm not really sure what to think of this. There's obvious times where the Wachowskis are perfecting their craft--trying out bullet-time effects and such, but it never really adds anything to the very bizarre and off-putting tone of this film.
It's basically soft-porn with a murder/heist plot wrapped around it to make it seem honest. The problem is that there's absolutely no "love" chemistry between Tilly and Gershon, so I couldn't really buy it as a romance.
It's plenty sexually-charged though, but it just seems deadening and cold, however, without any sort of care that these characters might have for each other. (And that lack of romance really makes the whole movie fall flat.
) Also, Joe Pantoliano's Chicago accent was distracting because it would be noticeable at times and not at others. They probably should have dropped it entirely.
