Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by Daniel W — 25 Jan 2009
Three very ambitious screw-ups dream of making it big in the world of crime. Well, it's really Dignan's (Owen Wilson) dream, the other two are just going along because they have nothing better to do.
In his first feature, the Wes Anderson style is there; the statically composed shots, the deadpan humor, the deliberate sense of color. BOTTLE ROCKET is the movie debut of the Wilson brothers, and features one of the best goofball "what else could go wrong" heists.
If I had seen this one in the theater in 1996 I would have probably been eager to find out about the next project these guys were working on. That eagerness would have been justified.
