Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by Leena R — 26 Jun 2009
I saw this back in college, but watched it the other night on my new Netflix streaming service on my Xbox (a service which is pretty dang cool if I do say so! I think I'll be much more likely to watch movies that I've wanted to but never got around to doing it).
Anyway, as with most Wes Anderson movies I don't think I loved it the first time, but that's already changed with just a second viewing. So funny, quirky and ever so slightly touching....all the things that make an Anderson movie great, which is fitting since this was his first film (it also marks the acting debuts of Luke and Owen Wilson).
The pacing slows a bit in the middle, but overall I highly recommend it to people who enjoy their humor quirky and offbeat. Love it! Incidentally, I liked it a heck of a lot better than The Darjeeling Limited and the Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou (two of the most recent Anderson films which make me think that his formula is starting to stretch a bit thin).
