Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by Tom S — 01 Jan 2010
Three friends choose to follow their dreams and gain their cash through a series of robberies. The first film by Wes Anderson, not his best effort by any means, the plot is very disjointed and the characterizations are not as clearly fleshed out like his later films, although touches of his budding creativity are evident: screwball comedy, wide tracking-shots, occasional awkwardness.
Although it's rather muddled at times, the acting from the Wilson brothers is great, especially when you have one with a bad army buzz-cut and one who looks like a philosophy student. Nonetheless, a valiant effort on Wes Anderson's part.
