If you hate Tom Cruise than get ready to love him - because he does a killer job in this film. I think that Tom Cruise gets undercut to begin with but his work in this film is really top notch - he knows when to turn off the kid and the adult version of his character exactly when it is called for, even when his character is supposed to be acting like an adult.

This film itself is a pretty cookie cutter dynamic - using everything that the film does for the purpose of telling the story. Most people aren't bothered by that and for the most part it is a staple of Oliver Stone's style.

The story and the dialog both are really good in this picture and both show the struggle of ideology in the film. It shows how someone who once supported the war for the same reasons that everyone else did could be turned to dislike the war.

There is no reason that you shouldn't see this picture.
