Review of Born on the Fourth of July (1989) by Baurushan J — 26 Aug 2012
The story is about All-American athlete Ronald Kovic who shocks his family by moving into the Marines to fight in the Vietnam War. Once he is overseas, Ron's enthusiasm to serve the country to horror as he is paralyzed from the chest down.
He returns home, spends an appalling, nightmarish stint in a veterans' hospital, and follows an increasingly disillusioned and fragmented path that ultimately leaves him drunk and dissolute in Mexico.
But Ron somehow still manages to pull himself back together, go back and serve the country by anti-war. This movie was one of my Independence Day favourites because it proved Tom Cruise can act and it got his first Oscar nomination.
No matter whether it's too long, it was a a powerfully dramatic patriotic piece of s-s-s-stardom! All hail Tom Cruise! Born On The Fourth Of July gets a pure 10/10.
