Review of Born on the Fourth of July (1989) by Jonathan P — 15 May 2011
I have always been intrigued by the Vietnam war and the after-effects and Born on the Fourth of July does a very good job at showing what our brave soldiers faced upon returning to a country who turned its back on them.
While the movie does a good job at showing some of the realities at times it felt fake. The perfect kid becomes the perfect soldier becomes the messed up vet becomes the figurehead for the antiwar movement.
It just seemed a bit unrealistic. Cruise did a fine job and as much as I wanted to really like this movie it never seemed to resonate with me.
