Review of Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids (2004) by Will G — 05 Oct 2007
It's not brilliant, but this Oscar-winning documentary about Calcutta's red light district children is compelling in its brutal honesty. A New York-based photographer teaches children of prostitutes how to take pictures, so they can express how they see the world.
And then, through selling their work, she also tries to get them into good schools so they can escape their environment. Worth the watch for a little more understanding and compassion.
