Review of Born (2007) by Brian C — 27 Aug 2012
An entertaining low-budget flick about a very typical pregnancy. I don't understand why this falls into the horror genre, though. As we all know, all babies are demon-spawn and all pregnant women are prone to mood swings during which they frequently tear out the hearts and cut off the heads of family members, draw a pentagram in the attic and attempt to bring demons out of hell.
Still, Alison Brie does a good job with her role as a pregnant (and therefore possessed) woman, generating a few genuinely creepy moments. Plenty of possibly unintentionally humorous scenes, too; it's hard to tell whether or not they were meant to be funny, but they are.
The fate of Lars is particularly amusing, as is the demonic claw coming out of a bellybutton and the oozy, green, acidic breast milk capable of shattering mirrors. I highly recommend this film for anyone considering having children!
