Review of Bordertown (2007) by Kanupriya R — 15 May 2009
Wow, good thing the USA didn't take more of Mexico huh? Adds to the Mexico-is-a-hellhole,-especially-for-women vibe of Trade and Borderlands. Banderas and Lopez work well together. It's funny Lopez doesn't tan die her hair to blend in. I love the argument about her going to a factory. Very telenovella. The terrifying junkyard scene makes the disagreement make sense.
In order to look paler (or for some other bizarre reason, perhaps as a joke) Lopez, at times, wears more make-up than a Bangkok lady-boy. It reminds me of Alba in Fantastic Four, she's playing a far lighter phenotype than her own. Alba pulled it off, Lopez didn't. 1:01-1:02 it's like she's wearing the mask from Vanilla Sky.
Don't knock him unconscious or kill him, just stun him for a bit. There are anachronisms in the story. She has a digital SLR camera, but can't seem to have a laptop or the ability to access the internet.
Moral of the story: Globalization is bad.
