Review of Borderland (2007) by Jason J — 05 Dec 2010
I did like the movie but after reading reviews I thought it was going to be really scary; if you think this too then you'll be disappointed. An interesting story, especially as it's based on real events, but it is not at all scary.
The script is executed very convincingly. The acting was consistently solid. Brian Presley's Ed was excellent and convincing, and Jake Muxworthy gave us an excellent rendition of party-loving Henry.
Valeria is attractively portrayed by Martha Higareda. The dark, savage look of the movie works very well to keep the mood. The actors, victims and attackers, personify the given material in a realistic way.
The gore & violence, though not as prevalent as similar movies, is well done and not over-the-top so much as to be fake-looking. The movie does drag a little bit a couple times, but doesn't totally kill the pace or the watchability of the movie.
Overall, it's not a great movie by any means, but definitely worth a view for fans of this genre.
