I am a major league fan of Ali G and Borat too, the HBO TV version and I went to the movie with an open heart and the highest hope. Is this the Emperor's New Clothes phenomena. I can't understand the critical acclaim.
The movie is pure dreck, garbage of the first rank. There are only a few bits that work. In addition the confusion about what is scripted and what is not scripted and who is an actor and who is an innocent victim is distracting.
None of the brilliance of the TV show is to be found here. Take my word for it, the reviewers are misleading you.
