Review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006) by Ryan R — 16 May 2014
Sacha Baron Cohen stars in this hilarious Mockumentary as the outrageous Borat Sagdiyev, the offensive, sexist and anti-semitic Kazakhstani journalist who treks around the world to America to learn the ways of the Americans where he interviews real-life Americans who believe he REALLY is a real foreigner who knows nothing about the cultures of America. Some of the events including the rodeo scene and the feminist veterans scene were actually real but some were actually staged. The film also stars Ken Davitan as Borats friend Azamat Bagatov who travels with Borat.
The film takes place in Kazakhstan ' The greatest country in the World, also the Number 1 exporter of potassium.' where Borat is leaving for the 'US and A' to make a documentary for the Kazakh Ministry Of Information, he leaves behind his wife Oksana and other residents of his village including his "43-year-old" mother, "No. 4 prostitute in all of Kazakhstan" sister, "the town rapist" (Very Funny Scene with lots of Quotable moments such as 'This my mother. She is oldest woman in all of Kuzek! She is 43!' and 'This is Orkin, the town rapist! Naughty, naughty!') However he takes his friend/producer Azamat.
Borat is now in New york, in a hotel he watches an episode of Baywatch and instantly falls in love with Pamela Anderson, after interviewing a group of veteran feminists and mocking them he learns the name and residence of Pamela Anderson. Back in his hotel room he learns that his wife had been killed by a bear through a telegram, delighted by the news he packs his bags and searches for Pamela to be his wife. Azamat is afraid of flying due to the September 11 attacks, believing that it was the work of 'Jews.' So Borat takes driving lessons, and buys a semi-destroyed Gaz truck for the journey.
During the journey he encounters many things from Gay pride parades to a 'genuine Chocolate face' incredibly hilarious which qualifies as another quotable scene 'You telling me the man who try to put a rubber fist in my anus was a homosexual?' (HAH-HAH-HAH).
This film will outrageously offend you or leave you in stitches, either way it's a great film, with Sacha Baron Cohen winning The 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor: Musical or Comedy, The comedy I feel was great, it deserves its rating of 91% as it delivers a packing punch to the comedy era. I laughed throughout the entire movie, especially when Borat and Azamat are Butt-Naked and are fighting with homoerotic touches to the scenes (This scene was unbelievably, actually REAL, can you imagine! Sacha and Ken must have a lot of courage to strut naked!), I believe Sacha's acting was exquisite as it came to the fact that he was acting to people who had no idea they were being filmed for a film, they didn't know that he was a fake AND he didn't break character (That's real good if you think about it.) The scenes are brilliant also with the Bed and Breakfast bit (A real scene too).
The film was fresh with ideas, original jokes and Witty banter, this hilarious and intelligent film brings a new touch to the comedy film industry, Sacha Baron Cohen brings his popular Sketch (Borat) from 'Da Ali-G show' to life with this funny and bizarre movie.
This film is for anyone who wants a proper laugh and for whoever just wants to see a great film. I loved it and I ENCOURAGE anyone to watch this, it's absolutely brilliant!!!
