Review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006) by Nathan T — 16 Jan 2013
Is Borat one of the funniest films ever? Not quite, but it is a genuinely funny mockumentary and most of that comes from Sacha Baron Cohen's sincere portrayal as the title character. While he is obviously trying to offend people and get a reaction, he's doing it in a way that looks as if he honestly doesn't know any better.
This makes Borat a much better film than say Bruno. The character is so innocent and foreign that it's easy to believe that this could actually be a real documentary. As for the laughs, I didn't find myself roaring with laughter as often as I would have liked, however I was smiling pretty much all the way through and most of the jokes did make me laugh.
definitely worth a watch.
