Review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006) by Daniel C — 08 Apr 2013
Kazakh journalist Borat heads to the USA to film a documentary. Meeting people and inciting strong reactions from many groups he encounters. During his time there he becomes obsessed with marrying Pamela Anderson, so the documentary takes a back seat in his quest.
Still outrageous and likely offensive to some, Borat is not for the faint-hearted or prudish. Borat's encounters are designed to create a reaction among those he interacts with and those watching. On a recent re-watch I was even convinced that more of the film was setup than we first would have assumed.
It's a funny but sometimes cringeworthy ride across America.
