Review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006) by Ben T — 01 Apr 2015
It seems that when Sacha Baron Cohen decides to make a new movie he sets out to insult as many people as possible, the movie he is most famously known for is Borat. Borat is an incredibly racist, very offensive, gut bustingly hilarious comedy.
This film is really really funny, as a person who doesn't get offended easily I found this film to be really funny even though it is in bad taste. This film is essentially a road trip/ documentary movie which is mostly Borat interacting with different kinds of people.
The scene where Borat learns how to speak from the black gang and then starts talking to the hotel managers in that way is really funny. The scene with the Jewish couple is really offensive but very funny.
A lot of comedy movies often have slow sections in them but surprisingly Borat does not, true it isn't the most fast paced comedy but it moves at a very quick pace. The start of the film is really offensive and stereotypical but very very funny.
Borat's friend in the film is also really funny as well, the whole scene with him and Borat running around the hotel naked is probably the funniest scene in the movie. The end scene with Pamela Anderson is also really funny.
It's also great seeing people's reactions to the shocking things Borat does. Also there's a bear in the movie, what happens to him at the end is very funny but cruel. The whole third act infact is really funny.
Overall this is definatley not for everyone but I loved it. Borat is racist, homophobic and sexist in the best possible way, there's a reason it's one of the best comedies of the past 10 years.
B+.
