Review of Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) by Adam A — 31 Dec 2009
I first saw this is in the cinema when it was released. As soon as the opening credits came up and Marilyn Manson burst forth out of the speakers there was a collective sigh amongst the members of the audience.
The air collectively left the room as the legacy of the original was dragged through the mud for some 90 plus minutes. This has to be a contender for the worst sequel of all time. Never have I been more disappointed with a movie.
Director Bruce Serlinger has forever gone on about he was forced to do things with this movie against his will. There may be some truth to this but in actuality this film was always going to be somewhat of a letdown.
The 'found footage' premise of the first movie was never going to work a second time so the filmmakers had to go in the direction of a more mainstream Hollywood movie. Unfortunately, this approach didn't work either.
No scares. Bad acting. Terrible dialogue. Awful effects. It all adds up to a rushed, poorly made and forgettable movie. Serlinger is better with documentaries and judging by this he should never be allowed to direct a big Hollywood movie again.
Sure, he may have had his hands tied on this project but in truth he made an astonishingly bad movie.
