Review of Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) by Luke A — 02 Mar 2010
Everything in this movie rings of another one, which is no surprise as it is an undeveloped, badly written movie.
Everything that Wiccan chick says is straight from "The Craft" from 1996. "I invoke thee," "whatever spell you cast comes back 3 times as much." Yeah, I haven't heard that before. Also, that girl that kept appearing? Ringu was made 2 years before this, the Japanese version of The Ring.
The movie is full of WTF moments. Like the bridge collapsing, but half the time its not collapsed. I don't think anyone would sell an abandoned factory just for a dollar either. Another thing, and I really shouldn't be saying this, but the movie made out that it was so mysterious why the woman had a miscarriage. Maybe it's because they got all drunk and were smoking dope. I'm just saying. And how long did it take for that paper to fall? It wasn't blowing all over them, it was literally shredded and still falling all the way until they supposedly woke up. One last thing to nitpick about, at the factory, when the van got trashed, they had numerous chances to walk up the road back too Burkittesville. Why didn't they do that?
The ending, like the rest of the movie, confused me heaps. I found though, it was quite similar to the Tim Burton Sleepy Hollow movie, made in 1999.
To be fair, this movie gave me a nightmare, so it is quite a creepy film. But hands down, the movie borrow's too many elements from other films. Also, where the heck was the book of shadows? I thought they'd atleast mention that book that recorded the occurrences of what happened during the witch attacks in Burkitteville. Never saw that.
If you want a movie that is really, really different but should be sued for numerous things, than you should watch this. I don't reccommend it at all, but the film does look good (and disgusting), but that doesn't say much.
40%.
