Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Abdulmalik A — 12 Jan 2013
Set in Los Angeles in the late seventies to the mid eighties, this film tells the tale of the lives of people in the pornography business surrounding the rise and fall of a young talented male porn star by the name of Dirk Diggler and his discoverer, a filmmaker who constantly tries to make his adult films works of art.
Paul Thomas Anderson's breathrough film is an unstoppable and forsaken rollercoaster ride and one of the best visions of rise and hard falls ever made. The post modernism through clear references to the works of filmmakers like Scorsese and Altman and a cool dynamic soundtrack also help adding glamour and life to the vibrancy of the works, already set by the excellent cast, colourful and meticulous camera work and great fast paced storylines.
