Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Jimmy P — 02 Jun 2013
"Boogie Nights" manages to do what your typical slasher movie couldn't do with hot, naked women - make them very likeable characters we can relate to and not just some pointless character for the audience to just look at their bodies. The male characters also deliver strong performances. Burt Reynolds and Mark Wahlberg's characters show you what it's like to live the dream, to be in the spotlight and the excess that comes along with it. It's like the message of "Scarface", except a lot less violent.
The soundtrack - I'm not very fond of '70s disco because I find it kind of cheesy, but it really mixes well with this movie. After all, disco was the popular party music of the late '70s.
