Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Alex F — 07 Oct 2015
I enjoyed the 1970s and early '80s atmosphere. It was dark but it could've been darker. I love the way Dirk starts out so innocent, and even in later scenes, when he's on the way down, he's shown as somewhat feeble-minded: I've never seen this done before.
Perhaps if the main character had been a female, this feeble-mindedness would've been called sexist and degrading. Somehow the least convincing actor was Reynolds. On the whole, a fine movie. Glad I finally saw it, 18 years after it came out.
