Review of Bonnie and Clyde (1967) by Izi M — 23 Apr 2011
Considering its influential status in Hollywood history, Bonnie and Clyde has quite a legacy to live up to. For the most part, it succeeds on a good chemistry between its two stars and the excellent cinematography and violence.
However, the beginning stumbles quite a bit and the acting often feels overblown to the point of melodrama. Some of the characters are just plain irritating, including the Academy Award winning role of Blanche.
The violence, while distinct enough, has (perhaps unfortunately) become watered down by the progressively more violent cinematic industry. It simply has lost its shock value, though little of its emotional impact.
