Review of Bonnie and Clyde (1967) by Steff A — 01 Jun 2013
Great gangster biopic by Arthur Penn. The movie starts with Clyde meeting Bonnie and ends with them being full of holes. In between we meet their families and a whole lot of other characters who become part of their legend.
The direction has a 60's feeling to it. The whole road movie aspect and the brutality reminded me of "Easy Rider". The movie is funny at times thanks to random encounters like Gene Wilder's character and other incidents.
Great is also the cast. Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Gene Hackman and Michael J. Pollard. All great with no exceptions. The complex relationship between the titular characters, their families and society in general is explored and gives us something to think about as the violence explodes all around us.
All in all this is a fine film that shows us a time when two kids in love could spread terror across the nation (the U.S.A. that is) and it does that in great style, entertains and offers some social sattire also.
