Some are confused as to why this movie is as heralded as a masterpiece... but it truly is a work of art. The cast are perfect, but it's the excellent direction by Arthur Penn that is the real standout.
This movie introduced violence in films in a whole new way, and rightly earns its title as the "first modern American film". The risks that Penn and Beatty took in making this film are quite apparent, but luckily, paid off quite well in the end.
