Review of Bonnie and Clyde (1967) by Jonathan B — 07 Sep 2010
Great all around picture, with some of the best acting, writing, and directing of the 1960s. There is a long list of books that chronicle how influential and important this picture was, so I am not going to bother getting into how much impact it had.
The film splices violence (extreme for 1968, average violence by our standards now) with great character development and heavy focus on the main characters relationship. There might not be enough shooting to keep someone entertained if they just want an action film, but a lot of people who are not into serious films will still enjoy this.
The only reason this film did not win Best Picture, and a truck load more Oscars, is because it came out the same year as In The Heat of the Night, Guess Whose Coming to Dinner, The Graduate, and Cool Hand Luke.
