Review of Bone Tomahawk (2015) by Bradley G — 23 Jun 2016
Bone Tomahawk is a simple, yet effective western thriller/horror. The first 2/3 moves along at a snail-pace, but never feels boring or dull thanks to interesting, almost Tarantino-ish dialogue and strong characterization.
The four leads were great and each brought something distinguishable to the story. The slow, dramatically-paced rising action culminates in a finale that is a drastic, yet well earned tonal shift that quickly transitions directly into horror/slasher territory, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since the characters were well-developed and the audience actually wants to see them make it out alive.
The theme of sacrifice and making the most of one's final moments is also portrayed in an cool and unique way.
