Review of Bol (2011) by Arun Z — 31 Aug 2011
A strong first half and a slightly disappointing second. Acting was a bit rigid for everyone except the two leads, Humaima and Sehbai. I don't even know why Atif and Mahira were cast. Dramatic scenes were too "melo"-dramatic and the opening sequences lacked the right "hook" for the audience.
Other than that, the film was very delightful to watch - considering that it depicted the harshness of various sensitive issues plaguing Pakistan with such poise. The film was definitely not subtle and pronounced a strong message throughout, yet not enforcing its idealistic views on the audience. You walk out of the cinema with your own perspectives of the issues portrayed.
