Review of Boiler Room (2000) by Shawn W — 19 Oct 2012
"They say money can't buy happiness? Look at the f*king smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby.".
â??Anyone who tells you that money is the root of all evil, doesnâ??t f*king have anyâ?? Ben Affleck's character spews.
Ignoring the fact that this is supposedly a guys' movie, I decided to watch it anyway. Now who doesnâ??t want to be fabulously rich in an incredibly short amount of time. The Boiler Room â??where 20 somethings millionaires were made overnight. Giovanni Ribisi plays a slick but little boy lost charmer with a conscience. He is eager to prove his worth to his demanding, judemental father by joining a maverick brokerage house where money flows freely. Here ambitious Gen-Xers chases the green at breakneck speed. I think Ribisâ??s role here is one of my favorites. My gripe: Nia Long, what is she doing here?Romantic interludes between Seth and Abby, are among the film's weakest episodes. Despite itâ??s immoral plot, I found the movie fascinating and realistically edgy Lesson learned: I suppose every financial gain means a financial loss somewhere else, and often at a hefty price.
Caution: Extreme profanity.
