Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Mauro L — 17 Jan 2019
This movie encapsulates the word "average." While an ok film from start to finish, I ultimately felt a weird sense of nothingness after the screening had finished. The movie left me with a sense of wanting to know more, and typically when that happens in a bio pic that's pretty good, the movie interests you enough to do your own research, but with this film the information shown is so one dimensional and barely scratches the surface of Queen's story.
Ultimately throughout the movie I felt bored, and far too often had no real sense what the movie was ultimately about. Obviously it's about Queen and Freddie Mercury, but what about them? They were a band? That Mercury was gay? That he got AIDS and then went on to perform at Live Aide? Those are the only three things there is to gather from this movie, and that's a shame because the source material is so rich with interesting narratives and personal intrigue.
