Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Bentony B — 10 Jan 2019
This movie completely blew my expectations out of the water. Typically most biopics are just trying to use your nostalgia to make money. But this movie doesn't really do that. I was mostly expecting just two and a half hours of Queen music with a lazily put together script, but they really do manage to tell Freddie's story along with the music.
Queen is has always and will always be my favorite band, for many people this music means something more than just some words and notes. These guys know that and understood a great way to put it all together, with the ending being my favorite of this year because of the iconic live-aid concert.
I think this movie struggles tries to rush the final act and some errors in terms of historical accuracy. Besides that this movie has very strong performances, tells an extraordinary story of a man who doesn't fit in, and has some of the best music I have ever heard, Rami Malek should definitely get nominated for an Oscar for his stunning performance of the flamboyant rockstar we all love.
This movie is one of the best of this year and will remain a great biopic, I can't wait to see what the studio does next with the Elton John movie. This movie also establishes some questions I still had about Freddy.
It shows him and is fathers relationship, it kind of tells us how he got aids, and his relationship with Mary. 9/10 for sure.
