Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Thom H M — 17 Nov 2018
I liked this movie. There was good and bad, but the good overwhelmed the bad. The good: the concert performance recreations were incredible and spot on. Those of us who like Queen at least a little will get plenty of enjoyment from them.
When we see how each member contributed to at least one great song from their arsenal was quite good as well - and so was the general band banter overall. The story itself - spotlighting Freddie Mercury - eh.
The problem with biopics is it's hard to get an engaging story going, and this one failed in that aspect. Rami Malek is a terrific actor - especially on his TV show MR. ROBOT - but he is kind of blah here.
He struggles a bit with his British accent. And the false teeth, used to replicate Freddie's overbite - are very distracting. It is nice to see the Freddie of the film see some happiness toward the end of his life.
I ultimately left thinking a saw a pretty darn good movie.
