Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Matches M — 11 Nov 2018
Absolutely phenomenal. Extremely happy that I made the effort to see this one on the big screen with a crowd.
A brisk walk through the history of the band, focused on their music, but paralleled with Freddy Mercuryï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s life was exactly what this film needed to be- nothing more. After seeing the film, the critical assessment for Bohemian Rhapsody made me upset. All the reviewers coming after it for not being more salacious or ï¿ 1/2 1/2hard hittingï¿ 1/2 1/2ï¿ 1/2Â? was frankly ridiculous. There was no ï¿ 1/2 1/2straightwashingï¿ 1/2 1/2ï¿ 1/2Â? in this film. Freddy is absolutely showcased as a gay man; just one who has a deep personal relationship with his ex-wife. Too bad so many reviewers were so woke they couldnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t recognize that Freddyï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s relationship with Mary had zero to do with sex.
Mercury literally says in the film that he doesnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t want to be a political poster boy but to be remembered for being a performer. In that regard the film excels - hell it punches a hole in the sky.
