Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Jolie A — 10 Nov 2018
If you're after a salacious expose on Freddie's life, this movie is not it. Bohemian Rhapsody is a joyful celebration of Freddie and the music of Queen. We all loved it. Malek does a superb job in the role of one-of-a-kind Freddie (though sometimes those teeth are in danger of taking over centre stage - we're just not used to so much time watching Freddie talk).
As for the other band members, at times we forgot they weren't playing themselves. Gwylim Lee in particular was lovely as Brian May. It's notable the way the dichotomy between the critics' and the crowd's appraisal of this film parallels the music critics' versus the fans' original appreciation of the song - and we know who was right in the end there.
