Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Andy K — 04 Nov 2018
The film was great from beginning to end. I think the decision to soften the excesses of Freddie's life, besides the indicative classification was that his sexual life or drug use was not Mercury's legacy, but his music and his career in the Queen, he himself knew how to differentiate very well.
Rami is flawless, bringing in Freddie's grimaces and his acid temperament, the imposing onstage, and the insecurity in his love life. The film is very encouraging in showing freddie dealing with stereotypes in music, in his ethnicity, in sexuality and how he sought to deal with his illness.
The film bothered me when I modified the chronology in some parts of the film, to fit the story until 1985, I ended up selecting some events in deepening others, I wanted to see Freddie's childhood, his influences, his desire to go beyond what was predicted for him, and some difficulties that he passes to enter as a singer in the queen and already in Queen moments of crisis like the album hot space that generated friction in the band and the fans.
I also wanted to see the part where Freddie releases his solo album and that does not go as well in sales as in the Queen. Lip sync was good, the first time Freddie opened his voice he did not know if it was Rami, Marc Martel or Freddie.
The film is majestic, frantic and exciting !!!!
