Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Melissa K — 05 Nov 2018
If this movie introduces a new generation to the music of Queen, all of its flaws may be tolerated for at least one showing. In broad strokes, the storyline is essentially a fictional timeline of how Queen became a rock band and evolved into a corporation with Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon in the boardroom. I hope someone will.
Bring the story of Freddie Mercury to the big screen someday, and with some subtlety and compassion. This wasn't it. With three directors in the broth, there's an oily after taste of incongruous flavor in camera, editing and screenplay. Kudos to all of the actors for saving the day and making a trip to the cinema worthwhile. Deservedly a spotlight.
Shines on Rami Malek as the frontman, but Lucy Boynton and others gave strong and believable performances that are less recognized. No one is getting out of this movie without a few battle scars, but the movie itself is novocaine, so you won't feel too much pain. Fine for older teens and adults!.
