Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Lorie A — 02 Nov 2018
Loved it! I want to make it clear that the critics biggest gripe about this film is that it doesn't go below the surfaceÂ?. This movie only has 140 mins to cover Queen & Mercury's history which spanned from 1970-1991.
You can only put so much into a film. Just the first 5 years of Queen or Freddie's struggles with his sexuality could be an entire film. The directors did one HELL of a job squeezing in as much as they could with the time they had Rami's performance is SPOT ON.
He deserves an Oscar nomination. He walked, talked, and breathed Freddie. He made me laugh, cry, and sing with him. The supporting cast band members NAILED their portrayals of Brian, Roger, and John. If you can see this movie on an IMAX screen, do it.
It is WORTH it. This film is a celebration of Queen and their music, not a documentary. It puts Freddie Mercury center stage to reveal the talented, troubled, and iconic legend who struggled for acceptance, love, and appreciation of his unique gifts.
