Review of Body of Lies (2008) by Erol D — 28 May 2010
One exhausted work night I opted to rent Body of Lies. I did this partly because the recent release of Robin Hood reminded me of Ridley Scott. Scott is a commercial filmmaker who, since Alien consistently manages to deliver skillfully crafted entertainment vehicles.
This movie delivered on that score and provided an interesting twist - American ops came out looking appalling and Arab ops far more competent and sympathetic. There were a few minor implausibilities to the script but overall this is an enjoyable thriller.
Russell Crowe is as able as ever as the oily, oblivious operative who blunders repeatedly with tragic results. DiCaprio isn't quite world weary enough for the part but puts in an able enough performance as the reluctant op.
