Review of Body of Lies (2008) by Tim D — 09 Dec 2011
Great performances, for sure. DiCaprio was better than I expected (I expect a fair bit from him, I just didn't expect that much from the movie). I find Crowe to be very overrated, but the fact that I don't like him actually enhanced the movie, to some degree.
I mean, I can appreciate Crowe if he's in a role that I'm not supposed to like, because then there is no confusion. My biggest problem with this movie is that it really had a problem landing on an identity/ideology.
I couldn't figure out what the motive of Ferris was, and so it was difficult to get behind him. I mean the movie did seem to rail against American uber-patriotism (especially as Crowe's character, who is this, is the "idiot").
It was clearly adapted from a novel, and the pacing really suffered. Enjoyable, though.
