Review of Body Heat (1981) by Sean F — 02 May 2004
Lawrence Kasdan's Body Heat, starring William Hurt and Naked Kathleen Turner, is one of those films that has grown on me over the years. Having first seen it in my early teens, it was memorable mostly for Naked Kathleen Turner, and caused something to grow, alright.
As my appreciation for film noir has developed and I've seen more examples of the genre, I recognize that Body Heat is a nice homage (particularly to Double Indemnity), but does not really expand on the genre in any meaningful way, as Chinatown succeeded in doing. Still, it's tight, finely acted (even Ted Hairpiece Danson is pretty good) and well directed.
Worth a look, especially if you're fond of noir or Naked Kathleen Turner.
