Review of Body Heat (1981) by Craig T — 04 Jan 2011
Body Heat is smart, sexy, and explosive. The more I see of John Hurt the more I appreciate his talent. Turner is at her best role to date here. She is smooth and calculated as she dominates the screen with her aggressive appetite.
Kasdan mixes thing up in this thriller and that is why it is so likable. We can pretty much guess what's really going on in some respects but not quite how or why. Hurt is in over his head and plays into it just like a cocky lawyer would.
He is too smart for any double cross but the end really clarifies things for us. Among them, we have all just seen a true master of deception (in one of the performances) and we have also just seen another win for the brilliant writer/director who is also responsible for some of the best films of the 1980's (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and The Big Chill).
(B).
