Review of Body Double (1984) by Brad B — 09 Dec 2009
This is DePalma's homage to Hitchcock. There are stylized references throughout this flick right down to the voyuerism that leads the hero [Wasson] into this whole web of murder and deception! [shades of Rear Window].
Like Hitchcocks Rear Window Wasson is a harmless everyman that does a little peeping out the window through a lens and witnesses a murder! However who and what he witnessed was both real and a deception and he is being set up to be an alibi for the murderer by his very voyeurism.Deceptions and slight of hand rein throughout this flick and while not great I find it none the less an enjoyable romp and worth repeated watching.Stand out performance of note is Melanie Griffiths hard bitten straight shooting porn actress role! Not a great film by any means but if one comes across it in a sale bin you won't be sorry if you buy it!
